Restored cast iron Erie pre-Griswold #8 eccentric 817X deep stove top pot. The bottom was offset to make more room on a wood/coal burning stove.

This holds 8 quarts with 1 1/2 inches to spare. The lower portion would set down into the firebox of the stove for quicker heating. I'm pretty sure this is the same model as the Erie 824. 817 is a Griswold number, so this may have been a transition piece? The bottom section is pitted but functional. This is one of the only ones I've seen online that has the original bail and handle. Got friends or family living off-grid who have an old wood burning stove? This is a gift that will make them happy. I'm including a cooking rack for canning.

This holds five pint Ball jars comfortably. Hopefully, your applesauce looks better than mine.

This isn't a gift for everyone, but it is a fantastic gift for the right person. With care, this will last forever and only get better with use. For friends new to cast iron, I recommend watching Cowboy Kent Rollins and The Mudbrooker on youtube. They have probably forgotten more about the use and care of cast iron than I'll ever know.
