I don't recall seeing these before. "The Chief" is standing with his blanket wrapped closely around him. Not sophisticated in design or execution but what caught my eye is the bleak expression on his face. Certainly purposeful on the part of the artist, but I can only guess at that purpose (well, perhaps the fellow on the right has a good reason - seems he lost an eye). Makes me think of such inhumanities inflicted on Native American peoples as the Trail of Tears and Wounded Knee.
And most of all, James Earle Fraser's End of the Trail. Cast iron (yes, a magnet sticks) with a bronze-colored finish applied. Condition is fine except for that missing eye thing. Finish is in good shape. Both stand flat and stable.
8 1/8 inches tall; base is 3 inches X 2 1/2 inches. They weigh just shy of 2 pounds EACH. Perfect gift for the one who does not want to forget.
